Respect for Self and Others Through Martial Arts

Respect, taught as something you do.

Respect is one of the first words a new student hears at US Kung Fu Center. It is taught not as a rule to memorize but as a set of actions practiced every class.

Respect for others

Students bow in and out, wait their turn and listen while others speak. They answer instructors politely and treat training partners with care.

Respect for oneself

Respecting yourself means giving your best effort, keeping your uniform neat and speaking about yourself kindly. Children learn that they deserve the same care they give others.

Respect at home

A short character lesson in every class connects respect on the mat to respect at home. Discipline sheets help parents and instructors use the same words.

Why it lasts

Because respect is practiced as action, it becomes habit. A child who bows sincerely to a partner is learning how to treat people throughout life.
