Developing Social Skills and Friendships in Martial Arts
A shared effort makes friendships easier.
Some children make friends easily. Others need a structured setting where conversation and cooperation come naturally. A kung fu class is that kind of setting.
A shared goal
Children in class are working toward the same things: a new form, the next stripe. Shared effort gives them something to talk about and celebrate together.
Clear communication
Students learn to speak with a clear, strong voice, to look people in the eye and to ask for help. These skills make every friendship easier.
Courtesy
Thanking a partner, waiting a turn and encouraging a classmate are practiced every class. Courtesy makes a child someone others want to be around.
