About Our School
At US Kungfu Center, our teaching is built on a rare blend of authentic Shaolin mastery and modern educational science—a hybrid of Eastern discipline and Western child-development philosophy.
Our Shifu’s journey began at the legendary Shaolin Temple, where he trained for 10 years, 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. His mornings started at 5AM with a half-marathon run up Songshan Mountain, followed by full days of conditioning, forms, weapons, and stretching.
To put this into perspective: Shifu trained more hours in a single day than most martial arts students and even practitioners—train in an entire month.
That level of commitment didn’t end when he moved to the United States.
Here, the training simply evolved.
Today, in addition to our regular school hours, we dedicate 8 hours a week to studying modern teaching techniques, classroom management, childhood psychology, leadership development, and communication skills. We also attend multiple teacher-training events every year to stay current and continue growing.

Because martial arts is living, breathing, and ever-changing. And to serve today’s children—and today’s families—we adapt with the times.
At US Kungfu Center, we proudly use a hybrid teaching model, integrating the ancient philosophies of Eastern discipline, respect, and resilience with the Western science of motivation, confidence-building, and child-centered learning. This fusion allows us to create an environment where students not only develop strong bodies and sharp minds, but also build character, emotional intelligence, and real-world leadership skills.

Instructor/Owner Yanguang Shifu
Yanguang Shifu began living and training at the Shaolin Temple at age 7, training 10 hours a day, six days a week, all year-round and outdoors in rain, shine and snow-with only one holiday each year to see his parents. By 14, he was teaching at the temple and was later chosen for its elite performance team, touring the world to promote Shaolin Kungfu.
For the past 17 years, he's brought that same discipline and mastery to US Kungfu Center to teach thousands of students. His personalized, hands-on approach has helped students not only win Grand Champion titles, but more importantly grow in strength, confidence and character and to become great people living happy, fulfilled and successful lives.
Coach Sherry
Born in Okinawa and raised in Honolulu, Sherry earned a degree in Biology on a full music scholarship, with a focus in violin. She went on to teach high school Algebra, conduct genetics research, and work as a bilingual flight attendant based in Hong Kong.
She won a full scholarship in Vocal Performance through a singing competition and became a professional singer, performing internationally at venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
She began training in Shaolin Kungfu after booking an action role in an indie film and has appeared in over 24 film and TV projects. Sherry is also a realtor.
She’s grateful for a new path that lets her shape lives beyond the mat and show others that it’s never too late to start.
